Scale and Radiation Detector Information

Radiation Detection Unit at Clare and Chase:

All loads entering our salvage yard will be scanned for radiation. To be properly scanned you will need to slow down to 3 mph or less when traveling through the radiation detectors. Our main entrance drive has two 3 mph signs posted just prior to the radiation detector stands. If you exceed the 3 mph speed you will be REQUIRED to circle around and enter again! The system can not get an accurate scan if you exceed the 3 mph speed limit! The system does clock your speed and sounds an alarm when the 3 mph speed limit is exceeded! Please avoid coming to a complete stop in between the radiation detector stands. If there is traffic ahead of you please stop BEFORE entering the 3 mph zone between the detectors and wait for traffic to clear enough that you are able to proceed through the detectors without having to stop between them. You will be held responsible for any damage done to the Radiation Unit by attempting to enter with an over sized load. If you have a load that can not be loaded so it is under the 13 feet width requirement please contact us for special instructions before attempting to enter the yard. DRIVE TRAFFIC IS ONE WAY!

All vehicles bringing material into our salvage yard are required to enter using the main entrance located to the left of the office. If your load is less than 50 feet long pull to Scale Number One to the right side to be weighed and given directions. If your load is longer than 50 feet please pull  to Scale Number Two on the
left side. When using Scale Number Two please come to Scale House Office to pick up your weigh in and weigh out tickets.
After being weighed you will be given instructions where to deposit your material. Then return to the scale you weighed in on to be weighed again. You will be given a weight ticket showing how much material you dropped off. If you have multiple materials you will repeat this process until all materials have been deposited. When returning to the scale please use the exit drive to go back to Grass Lake Road and return to the scale. If you have any questions please call 989-386-7552.

Scale Operation Chase Division

When visiting Fair Salvage Chase please pull directly on to the 84 foot scale located to the left of our
main office. The scale is easily visible when you enter our drive. The speed limit when approaching
the scale is three miles per hour. Once you have parked your vehicle on the scale please remain in
your vehicle and our scale attendant will weigh you in and walk out to discuss your material and give
you directions for unloading. Once unloaded drive around the main building and return to the scale to
weigh again. For your safety traffic flows only in one direction around the yard. If you have any
questions regarding this procedure please call 231-832-2955. Thank you!
